"Let me ease your load"

I am a baby RN so to speak. I graduated with my Associates Degree in Applied Science/ Registered Nurse. I do not believe we nurses ever quit learning. Being a self employed nurse starting my independent nursing service has continued my education.

I worked my way through nursing school as a CNA, LPN, and upon graduation continued with the same hospital as a RN. I soon learned that the politics of Nursing could be an obstacle for advancement. I was called by a very nice lady who owned traveling nursing agency, who offered temporary nursing jobs in my area. To make a long story very short, she terminated her business but, another nursing agency picked me up doing temporary nursing jobs, in approximately the same area of the state.

Because of internal problems, the nursing agency lost the contract with the facility. The facility advised me they would request me personally if I became employed with another nursing staff agency.

Since each nursing agency had history with the facilities in the area, I started my own traveling nursing agency and have been working for these facilities without problems. I have been able to work as a self employed nurse, and continue my full time staff position since Feb. 2006. I have had hundreds of nurses ask me how I got started and how they too could start a nursing agency.

*Just a side note* The hospital politics continue and are in every facility, however my supervisor at my full time staff position treats me much differently knowing I have things in place which give me many options to replace what I am now doing full time

My traveling nursing agency continues to grow allowing me to accept as many temporary nursing jobs as my personal time allows. At this point in my career I am excited about the options of working more to help me financially as well as the opportunity to increase my knowledge and experience with exposure to numerous patients and conditions.

At some point I will make a decision to do the traveling nursing agency work full time or scale it back to accommodate what I do with my personal time. But for the time being I am very content to work hard, deliver good patient care, and set my schedule according to what my time and personal life allows. I totally enjoy the independence I have achieved starting a nursing agency. Life and Nursing is good for me. Good luck in your adventure into the world of owning your own traveling nursing agency.
